HISAR: The special investigation team (SIT), probing the gangrape of a 20-year-old Rewari woman at Kanina in Mahendragarh district, on Sunday arrested three men, including one of the prime accused.

Raids continued across several states to nab two other accused, including an armyman, even as the state government cracked the whip and moved out the Rewari district police chief.

One of the three key accused, Nishu, has been nabbed, SIT chief and Nuh SP Nazneen Bhasin told the media in Rewari. Besides, the SIT also arrested Deen Dayal, owner of the tubewell room where the accused allegedly raped the victim on September 12, and a medical practitioner, Dr Sanjeev, who was called by accused when the victim’s condition deteriorated.

A hunt is on for the two other key accused — Pankaj, an armyman, and Manish, she said.

Bhasin said the medical practitioner did not inform the police though he knew that the victim was sexually assaulted. Terming it a pre-planned crime, Bhasin said Dayal provided keys of the tubewell room to the accused.

Meanwhile, CM Manohar Lal Khattar ordered the transfer of Rewari superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Duggal. He has been replaced by Rahul Sharma, who was in the CM’s security. Duggal has now been posted as commandant, 3rd Battalion, Haryana Armed Police, Hisar.

The CM also called DGP BS Sandhu to review progress of the investigations and directed that the case be fast tracked.

The police were questioning relatives, friends and fellow villagers of the accused to know their whereabouts.

The accused, who belong to the same village as the victim, allegedly kidnapped her from Kanina bus stand while she was on her way to a coaching centre. They gave her a sedative-laced drink and took her to a tubewell room where they raped her . They later dumped her at a bus stop.

FAMILY TO RETURN ₹2-LAKH CHEQUE

The victim’s mother said the family has decided to return a cheque for ₹2 lakh handed over to them on Saturday by the district administration officials.
