1 killed, six hurt as Punjab bus hits truck in Karnal
KARNAL: One person was killed and six others were injured when a Punjab Roadways bus collided with a truck on the national highway- 44 on the outskirts of Karnal city, police on Sunday said.
The police said the accident took place on late Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Yash Prashar, a resident of Khanna in Ludhiana district of Punjab.
Police said one of the bus passengers told them that the truck driver suddenly stopped the vehicle on the highway and the bus, which was carrying around 20 passengers, hit it from the rear side. The injured were rushed to Karnal’s Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital, from where one of them, Ram Singh, was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Madhuban police station in-charge Raj Kumar Ranga said an FIR has been registered against the unknown truck driver under Sections 304 A, 338 and 279 of the IPC and efforts were on to arrest him. He said the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members after postmortem.
Meanwhile, the accident led to a traffic jam on the national highway and the police had to use cranes to remove the vehicles.
MAN CRUSHED TO DEATH BY TRUCK IN K’SHETRA
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man was crushed to death by a truck in Pehowa of Kurukshetra district.
The deceased was identified as Chiman Kashyap, a resident of Deora village of Kaithal district.
In a police complaint Ram Bhagat, cousin of the deceased, said Chiman was going to Pehowa for some work. He was walking on the roadside when a truck ran over him.
He died on the post. However, the driver of the truck managed to flee the spot, leaving the vehicle behind. The police said an FIR was registered against the unknown truck driver and efforts were on to arrest him.
