Cops remove girl’s halfburnt body from pyre in Rohtak

Class 11 student was being discretely cremated by her kin

HISAR: The Haryana police on Sunday pulled out the halfburnt body of a Class 11 girl from the funeral pyre in Behbal village under the Meham subdivisio­n of Rohtak district, suspecting honour killing.

The police control room received a call from a villager that a family of a 17-year-old girl took her body to the crematoriu­m, without informing anyone in the village.

Suspecting foul play behind her death, the Meham police reached the spot with forensic experts.

The fire was extinguish­ed and by firefighte­r and the halfburnt body was pulled out from the pyre, a senior police official said.

The experts took samples from the body, which were sent to a forensic lab to know the exact cause of death of the victim.

He said the girl’s family told the police that she died after complainin­g of discomfort in her chest and stomach.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem at the PGIMS, Rohtak. We are awaiting the report and will initiate further action accordingl­y,” the official said.

Police officials suspected that the girl could have been strangulat­ed.

“We have sent the remains for forensic examinatio­n,” a police official said.
