ENJOY FESTIVITIES WITHOUT DAMAGING THE ENVIRONMENT

- Mansi Handa

Festivities are always awaited with so much excitement and enthusiasm. It is a time to indulge oneself wholeheartedly and celebrate with family and friends.

However, in our state of joyous exuberance, we often become reckless and celebrate without restraint, not giving a thought about the environment.

We tend to justify our reckless revelry in the name of traditions and customs or sometimes merely in pursuit of momentous joy, thus damaging and polluting our environment in the process.

In our mindless fervour, we quite forget that we shall not only live to see many bleak tomorrows but also bequeath this undesirable legacy to our future generations.

It has been rightly said that we must cherish the natural resources, cherish the natural wonders as a sacred heritage for our children and our children’s children.

With time, we must try and evolve, revisit our rituals and re-evaluate their impact on our environment. Our culture must remain preserved and ecological balance, maintained.

Let’s observe rituals symbolically, use eco-friendly materials as far as possible, and promote low-key minimal celebrations.

Let us celebrate our festivals with conscious responsibility.

Let us spread happiness and cheer, not pollution! Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers. The views expressed are personal
