CHANDIGARH: Accusing the Captain Amarinder Singh government of failing on all fronts, the Punjab BJP unit on Friday announced a statewide agitation from October 2.

Addressing a press conference here, state BJP chief Shwait Malik said only a bunch of retired and in-service bureaucrats are running the show as Amarinder has virtually handed over his government to them. “There is nothing like government in Punjab. This government is by the people, but it is certainly not for the people. It is only serving Congress workers and leaders,” he alleged.

The BJP leader said the party will start an agitation with the slogan “Congress gaddi chodo” from October 2. The agitation will start from Jalandhar, he said. “This will be followed by Jan Sampark Abhiyaan,” he said.

“The CM has confined himself to his residence. He is not attending state-level functions and his chief principal secretary and retired IAS officer Suresh Kumar is running the government,” alleged Malik, who is also a Rajya Sabha member.

He said in absence of political command, ministers and MLAs of the Congress have started looting people.

“The CM himself has admitted that he banks completely on Suresh Kumar for administrative work. Even the ministers are getting orders from Kumar. I am not questioning anybody’s integrity, but the people of Punjab had voted for Amarinder to run the show not a retired bureaucrat,” said Malik.

Without naming anybody, the state BJP chief alleged that some minister in Amarinder’s cabinet are holding meetings with Khalistanis and ‘Referendum 2020’ organisers abroad, but the CM is a mute spectator.

The BJP chief said that before coming to power, the Congress promised moon to voters, but even after 18 months of its tenure, the Amarinder government has failed to fulfil a single promise.
