22YEAROLD DHARAMSHALA STUDENT HIT BY BIKE, DIES
DHARAMSHALA: A 22-year-old woman was killed after being hit by an unknown biker near Dharamshala police station on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Ankita Sharma, a native of Bilaspur district. She was pursuing masters in business administration (tour and travels) from the Central University of Himachal Pradesh.
Kangra superintendent of police (SP), Santosh Patial, said Ankita was on her way to Dipu Bazar locality with two of her friends when she was hit by a speeding bike. The biker fled from the spot, he added.
She was rushed to nearby hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead.
“Police have registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown person,” the SP said, adding that they are trying to ascertain identity of the accused.
Police are analysing the CCTV footage of the incident spot and on route the accused had taken to flee, he said.
“We have obtained a video in which a speeding bike is seen passing after the accident. Though the registration number is not clear, we have identified the bike. Information is being gathered about people who own bikes of this make,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, students of CUHP held a protest outside Dharamshala police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
Agitating students blocked the traffic for over an hour at Dharamshala-McLeodganj Road. It was only after the SP’s assurance of arresting the accused at the earliest, they lifted the blockade.
