AMRITSAR: Member Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla inspected the integrated checkpost (ICP) at the Attari border to coordinate execution of centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) on Monday. The Border Security Force (BSF), Land Port Authority of India (LAPI), Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), and customs officials were present during the inspection.

Aujla said a major cause of concern is the delay in installation of truck scanner. He said deliberate delays in construction and installation of scanning system is raising suspicions that “some agency or anti-national group might be trying to sabotage the project to compromise the safety and security of India.”

Maintaining that it is the duty of the LPAI to install and maintain the infrastructure of ICP Aujla said, “The LPAI and the contracting firm are responsible for delay in installation of the truck scanner.”

During the inspection, he found only one mason and some helpers working on the building. Aujla said, “I found glaring flaws in structure of the building. This portrays that neither the LPAI nor the contractor is paying attention to the quality and pace of work.”

Aujla met the porter union members and listened to their grievances. He raised the union’s issues with the CWC, customs officials and contractors. “All valid and legal demands of the porters will be met,” he said. He directed the labour contractors and CWC officials to find a hasslefree method of depositing the porters’ earnings. He lent an ear to the truck drivers from Pakistan as well.

He instructed the officials concerned to provide fresh food, tea and water to the porters and drivers after inspecting the pantry.

Aujla also directed the officials to provide basic necessities to the BSF personnel, visitors, porters and drivers. “These minor factors tarnish the image of our nation. I will prepare a report and personally submit it to the Centre,” he said.
