SC to hear petition seeking CBI probe today

-

JAMMU :A petition filed by one of the eight accused in Kathua rape and murder case seeking CBI probe will be listed before the Supreme Court on Friday.

The petition seeking CBI probe is listed for Friday before the Supreme Court in court number 11 of Justice UU Lalit and Justice Chandrachud.

“This is for the first time that the SC will hear a petition filed by accused seeking CBI probe,” said advocate Ankur Sharma, who along with advocate Chandan Sharma will lead the arguments.

An eight-year-old nomadic girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered in Rasana village of Kathua district. The girl had gone missing on January 10 and her body was found on January 17.

In a detailed petition filed by one of the accused submitted before the Supreme Court says that the investigation agency state crime branch has not yet come across tangible and positive evidence.

“In fact the investigation agency has carried out a botched up investigation influenced by ulterior motives.”

“It would be apt to infer that investigation is mangled to appease political patronage,” the petition says.

There will be arguments before the apex court on Friday on the petition and it is expected that the court may issue notices to government, said advocate Sharma.

Pathankot district and sessions judge Tejwinder Singh is hearing the case after it was transferred on the orders of the SC after victim’s family filed a plea.
