COUNCIL HAS DECIDED TO REMOVE A PROF AS SUPERVISOR AFTER AN INTERNAL INQUIRY FOUND HIM GUILTY

NEWDELHI:The Delhi University’s executive council (EC) on Thursday said it would seek legal opinion against a department head of the university, who was allegedly involved in a sexual harassment case, and five other professors who were also named in the said incident by the internal complaints committee.

According to an EC members, the council has decided to remove a professor from the post of supervisor after an internal inquiry found him guilty in the sexual harassment case.

“It was also decided that female students won’t be placed under that particular professor’s supervision for the five years,” an EC member said.

The matter against the head of the department and five professors was reported in December last year when a teacher accused them of sexual harassment. “The matter was taken up by the internal complaints committee, which found the man guilty and the findings were submitted to the council,” the EC member said.

The EC members also submitted a note to the university vice chancellor saying that the reports of internal complaints committees that look after sexual harassment cases should directly come to it and not be routed through a sub-commitee.
