MAN DIES OF BURNS NEAR METRO STATION IN GHAZIABAD
A 35-year-old motorcycle rider was killed and his pillion rider injured after some chemical substance fell on them, allegedly from the Johri Enclave Metro construction site in Ghaziabad’s Loni, on Wednesday.
The police said Amit Chauhan sustained severe burns from the acid-like substance and died during treatment in east Delhi’s GTB hospital. Amit’s neighbour Rahul, 17, who was riding pillion, is undergoing treatment in hospital.
The victim’s family alleged negligence by workers at the Metro construction site and lodged an FIR at the Loni Border police station late on Wednesday night. A Delhi Metro spokesperson, however, said the incident had nothing to do with them.
“No work that requires the use of such corrosive chemicals is in progress there. Construction work at that site is already over,” the spokesperson added.
The victim’s family said the incident took place under the Johri Enclave Metro station in Loni when Amit and Rahul were going to the market to fetch some plywood. The area is close to the Delhi border.
“When Amit and Rahul were under the Metro station, some chemical fell on them from above. Amit was drenched in the corrosive liquid and fell unconscious due to the fumes and burns,” said Raju Chauhan, Amit’s brother-in-law.
Chauhan said Rahul also suffered burns and both were rushed by locals to GTB hospital in Delhi where Amit died.
