Two contradictory versions have surfaced in the murder of inspector Mukesh Kanungo and constable Ramprakash, who were allegedly shot dead by Ajay Choudhary and his aides in Fatehpur town of Sikar district on October 6.

The first investigation report (FIR) filed by the Fatehpur Sadar police on October 7 stated that in order to catch Choudhary and his aides, Kanungo, along with constables Ramprakash, Sawarmal and Ramesh Kumar, had gone on a patrolling in the Fatehpur area at 11.30 pm. Around 11.45pm, when they reached Beswa village, Knaungo received a tip-off that Choudhary and his aided are coming towards Fatehpur town in an SUV.

HT has a copy of the first investigation report (FIR) .

Kanungo and other cops saw the SUV and told them to stop, after which Choudhary, Dhankar, Dinesh Acharya alias Lara and Omprakash alias OP came out of their vehicle with arms in their hands.

After coming out from the vehicle, Choudhary told Kanungo ‘Teri mera pichha karne ki himmat kaise hui (how dare you chased me)’, stated the first investigation report (FIR).

It further stated that Choudhary fired at Kanungo and he died.

After that Dhankar told Ramprakash ‘Tumko bahut din ho gaye hamare ko dhundhte huye, bahut dino se peechhey pade huye ho’ (you are searching and chasing us for many days) and fired at the constable killing him.

When other police men counter fired, Choudhary and his accomplices fled the spot, added the first investigation report (FIR).

On October 14, the police arrested the prime accused from Pune and Mumbai.

On October 15, police department released an official press note that said that Kanungo took the charge of Fatehpur station house officer in September and started tracking the movement of gangsters in the area.

He received a tip-off that Choudhary and his aides are planning to kill another gangsters.

Choudhary had animosity with a gangster, Manoj Swami, and was tracing his location. On October 6, he came to know that Swami had left from his farm house in an SUV.

Considering it as the right moment, Choudhary, along with his accomplices, planned to kill Swami.

On October 6 night, Kanungo came to know about the movement of Choudhary and started monitoring nearby areas in a private vehicle that was similar to that of Swami’s vehicle.

The reason cited by the police department behind the use of private vehicle by Kanungo was that the gangsters may flee the spot seeing a police vehicle.

At 11.36 pm on October 6, when Kanungo was patrolling in the area in his vehicle, Choudhary and his accomplices started firing at it killing Kanungo and Ramprakash.

When asked about the contradictions in the police versions, inspector general of police, Jaipur range, VK Singh, said, “We will tell you what it was when we will file the charge sheet.”
