Three bike-borne robbers open fire at Hoshiarpur man

-

HOSHIARPUR: Three motorcycleborne men on Monday opened fire at an employee of a finance company in Dasuya and looted ₹5.71 lakh cash from him.

The victim has been identified as Sukhdip Singh, 29, of Nangal Khunga village.

Sukhdip complained that he was going to deposit the money in a bank when the miscreants intercepted him near Usman Shaheed turn and shot at him. One of the bike riders snatched the bag that contained the cash.

The victim was rushed to Dasuya civil hospital with a bullet in his thigh. He was, later, referred to a Jalandhar hospital.

Dasuya deputy superintendent of police AR Sharma and station house officer Jagdish Raj Attri said they have cordoned off the area but were clueless about the attackers.

A case under Section 397 (robbery with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the unidentified accused.

There has been a spurt in robbery and snatching incidents recently. Two days ago, three Pulsar bike riders had snatched gold ornaments from three women and had looted ₹35,000 cash from a shop owner at gunpoint.

“It appears to be the handiwork of the same gang. We will nab the culprits soon,” said Attri.

Shop burglaries and thefts have also become common in the city. A few days ago, shopkeepers had staged a demonstration to protest against the rising crime.

SSP J Elanchazhian said such incidents had increased. “We have got some cases traced while others will be solved soon,” he said.
