A day after a 22-yearold youth was electrocuted to death at Pandoori Warrainch village, 11 kms from the district headquarter, police on Wednesday booked a junior engineer (JE) and a lineman of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for causing death due to negligence.

The deceased has been identified as Harwinder Singh of the same village, while the accused are JE Hardev Singh of Amritsar and lineman Gurmej Singh of Sohian Kalan village in Amritsar.

The duo staffers of PSPCL have been booked on the complaint of the deceased’s uncle Roor Singh.

Roor said on Tuesday his nephew was going to fill an iron drum with paddy grains at his field in the village.

“He had lifted the drum on his head. When he reached near the field, the drum touched a hanging electricity wire and he was electrocuted to death immediately,” he said.

He said, “We had already lodged a complaint at PSPCL’s toll free number (1912) about the hanging wires in the village on July 31, but the concerned officials didn’t pay any heed to the problem. Due to their lackadaisical approach my nephew lost his life.”

Investigation officer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Palwinder Singh of Kambo police station said, “After conducting the deceased’s postmortem, his body was handed over to his family members.”

On Roor Singh’s complaint, a case under Sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused, who are absconding.
