4 militants held in Poonch, Pulwama districts

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: Four militants were arrested from Poonch district and Pulwama district on Wednesday.

Security forces arrested two terrorists and recovered some arms and ammunition from their possession in Poonch district.

“Acting on a specific input, army along with police checked a vehicle around 4pm at Jaranwali Gali. During checking of the vehicle (JK01R-5936), which was on its way to Jaranwali Gali from Mendhar, the security personnel took into custody two militants,” said a police officer. Security forces also found two AK 56 rifles and two magazines, he said . The duo was identified as Shabir Ahmed and Mohammed Aqib, residents of Kokepura in Pulwama district of Kashmir. Meanwhile, Pakistan opened small and heavy arms fire on Indian posts along the LOC in Rajouri district. Pakistan army opened fire at Indian positions in Kalal and Deeing forward locations in Nowshera sector prompting Indian army to retaliate in equal measure, said a police officer.

TWO MILITANTS ARRESTED FROM AWANTIPORA

Two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants were arrested from Pulwama’s Awantipora on Wednesday.

A large cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from them, police said. Acting on a credible input, the security forces arrested the duo at a check point at Panzgam in Awantipora area, a police spokespers­on said.

The duo has been identified as Jan Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Kaweni Dugripora and Nasir-ul-Islam, a resident of Panzgam.

“During checking, arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession, including UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher), grenades and live rounds and other incriminat­ing materials,” the spokespers­on said.

A case has been registered and investigat­ions have been initiated. “Investigat­ion in the instant matter has revealed that the duo is affiliated with proscribed terror outfit HM. Further investigat­ion in the instant matter is going on,” the spokespers­on said. The arrests come after a woman helper of militants was arrested in city outskirts on Tuesday.

The woman, whom a police statement called over-ground worker of militants, was arrested while she was travelling with ammunition, including grenades and live rounds. The identity of the woman was not revealed.
