NEW DELHI: : An argument over a parked scooter ended in the murder of an 18-year-old in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Identified only by his first name, the victim Varun was kicked and punched by a group of men when he tried to intervene in a quarrel involving his cousin, said Seju P Kuruvilla, deputy commissioner of police (outer).

Of the those suspected to be involved in the assault, the police have identified two brothers Mannu and Ravi. All accused are on the run and the police have formed three teams to nab them.

According to police, at about 3.15 pm, Sulatnpuri residents Jatin and Deepankar, were at a local market having snacks from a roadside stall.

“Another local resident Mannu arrived at the same stall with his friend on a scooter and parked the vehicle in a hurry, resulting in an argument with Jatin,” said Kuruvilla.

The argument soon snowballed into a fight during which Mannu and his friend allegedly assaulted Jatin. “Deepankar rushed to Jatin’s home and informed his cousin Varun. Mannu too called some of his friends,” said the DCP.

When he tried to intervene, Varun was knocked out. The attackers then fled the spot before the police arrived.

Varun was rushed to Jaipur Golden Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Sultanpuri police who had earlier registered a case of attempt to murder went on to invoke the murder section.

“No weapons were used in the murder. We await the autopsy report to know what exactly caused his death,” said DCP Kuruvilla.
