Three days on, cops struggle to get clues
SURESH SHARMA, THE FORMER CHIEF OF AAP’S AMRITSAR UNIT, WAS ATTACKED INSIDE HIS SHOP AT PARTAP BAZAAR ON TUESDAY EVENING
AMRITSAR: It’s been almost three days since the former chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Amritsar unit, Suresh Sharma, was shot at by unknown people at his furniture shop at Partap Bazaar, the city police is still struggling to get any clue about the assailants.
Sharma, a member of the political affairs committee of the AAP’s Sukhpal Singh Khaira faction, suffered three bullet injuries in his right leg when an unidentified assailant fired four gunshots at him on Tuesday evening.
Notably, after Khaira was suspended by the party, Sharma had also resigned from the post in his support.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-1), Lakhbir Singh, said that the police teams are actively investigating the matter to nab the assailants and many people were being questioned in this regard, but there has been no breakthrough as of now. He said they will nab the assailants soon.
“So far, the police investigation has found that there were two persons who committed the crime. They had come on a white Honda Activa scooter. One of them, who opened firing on Sharma, entered Partap Bazaar by foot while the second one stayed outside the market on the scooter. The duo has been caught in the footages of closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) installed in and around the bazaar,” the ADCP-1 said. However, we are yet to ascertain the identity of the accused as they had covered their faces, he added.
Sharma, who is also an RTI activist and an anti-corruption crusader, is undergoing treatment at a prominent private hospital here. Earlier, his condition was serious, but now he is said to be stable.
