People say youth ask a lot of question. This is a good thing because this means they want to let go of old things.Today’s youth is very able, ambitious and dreams big.

NARENDRA MODI, Prime Minister

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed India’s culture and unity in the 50th episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat. He said people like him may come and go, but “the Indian culture, unity, and permanence will remain immortal”.

Modi said he chose radio as the medium for his monthly show to “reach out to the masses with the glorious saga of our country’s unity, grand history, valour, diversity, cultural diversity, and virtues embedded in our society.”

Modi spoke about a stall owner, who had offered him a laddoo to celebrate India’s nuke tests during his days as a Bharatiya Janta Party worker in 1998.

“It was a matter of great intrigue to me to see a lone tea seller in a remote, snow-clad hilly place, who possibly kept listening to the radio the entire day… watching that particular impact of the news on radio led me to realise and internalise that this was a medium that was truly connected with the masses… and that it was a mighty means of getting across,” Modi said.

Modi referred to the young people and said they want to achieve things fast. He added if they are given an encouraging atmosphere, they will transform the nation.

“People say youth ask a lot of question. This is a good thing because this means they want to let go of old things. They do not have time to waste and want to achieve things fast. Today’s youth is very able, ambitious and dreams big,” he said.

“People say the young generation wants to do so many things at the same time. I say what is wrong in that? They are good at multi-tasking so they do that. This is the new India.”

Modi pointed out the topics of conversations with teenagers are mostly limited studies, behaviour, and lifestyle.

“Do this, do not do this. Slowly, the level of communication is coming down. This is a matter of concern,” PM Modi said. “I try to understand the youth and match their wavelength.”
