KARNAL: Special efforts by sub-inspector (SI) Mukesh Rani, in-charge of Haryana Police crime branch’s anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) based in Panchkula, have brought about the reunion of 11-year-old Ram Narayan, who had gone missing from Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh (UP), with his family.

Ram Narayan went missing about two months ago when he mistakenly boarded a wrong train from Gurugram railway station, where he was headed for Rajashtan along with his father.

He reached Kurukshetra railway station and the police official of the child helpline took him to the Bal Ashram at Ladwa in Kurukshtra district after counselling by the child welfare committee.

Mukesh Rani, who made a call to the children home as per her routine job to get details about new children coming to all orphanages in the state, came to about Ram Narayan.

She took particulars of the boy from a caretaker of the children home.

“I also talked to the boy on phone and came to know that he belongs to Bhareypur village of Farrukhabad district in UP. I then made several calls to his village and the Farrukhabad police and managed to get the contact number of his father,” she said.

“We shared his photograph with his father on WhatsApp and he recognised him. Later, we called his father to Kurukshetra and the child was reunited with his family,” she told Hindustan Times.

Initially, the child did not want to go back to his family and during the counseling, he stated that he studied in a primary school in his village and his elder brother Shri Naryanan would scold him every day,” she said.

“In fact, he was very happy at the Bal Ashram. He was even fond of the food and clothes he got there,” she added.

Shiv Narayan, the father of the child, is a labourer who has two more children, including a daughter. He told the police that his wife had died two years ago and Ram Narayan.

He praised the Haryana Police and expressed gratitude to Mukesh Rani, who made “special efforts” to reunite his son with the family.
