Government to shift Jalandhar judicial complex to new place

-

JALANDHAR: Due to the problem of traffic congestion and lack of space, the state government is planning to shift the Jalandhar judicial complex to a new place outside the city.

The judicial officials have already identified three places outside the city to construct a bigger judicial complex so that more rooms for judges and space for advocate chambers can be built at the place.

Jalandhar District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) civil judge (senior division)-cum-secretary, Jaapinder Singh, said, the matter is being overviewed by the Jalandhar district and sessions judge and three locations one at Hoshiarpur road and two on Nakodar road have been identified for the new complex, but no location has been finalized by the officials so far.

A district administration official, who is coordinating with the judiciary officials in this matter, said, a location on the Nakodar road has been selected and the process is on to have a deal with the owner to finalize the location.

Officials said after finalizing the land, the construction of new complex would be started after finalizing of drawings by building committee of Punjab and Haryana high court followed by an allocation of the requisite budget by the state government.

The officer said this is a move to facilitate the residents as at present there is a big problem of parking and water logging during the rainy season. Moreover, the chambers of advocates are far from the complex, which would be built in the premises in a new proposed judiciary building.

The DLSA secretary said at present the judicial complex has 24 rooms against the present 35 officers. More rooms are required for judges, which would help speed up in settling the cases.

He said that officials are concerned for many things, before selecting the place, including that the selected place would be convenient for the people or not.

The matter is being overviewed by the Jalandhar district and sessions judge and three locations have been identified for the new complex.
