Four miscreants rob Sangrur family of ₹7 lakh at gunpoint
SANGRUR : In the second case of armed robbery in the district this week, four men, with faces covered, barged into the house of a sanitaryware showroom owner, Raman Garg, at Ahmedgarh, 55km from district headquarters, about 1.30am on Thursday, and looted ₹7 lakh and jewellery at gunpoint. Ahmedgarh is near Malerkotla city. They also fired two shots.
On November 26, two bikers had shot at an employee of Cooperative Society, Manki, near Malerkotla and snatched ₹11 lakh. The assailants had thrown red chilli powder in the eyes of the two men, who were on their way to Fatehgarh Panjgrain bank to deposit the cash.
Amargarh DSP Palwinder Singh Cheema said, “The four robbers gained access to Garg’s house through an under-construction building. They also fired from a country-made weapon.” Cheema added that the miscreants also fired a second bullet and asked the family to hand over all cash and gold to them. “The bullet left minor injuries on the face of Raman’s wife; she is out of danger,” he added.
Raman’s father, Vijay Kumar, 75, said, “The looters also threatened to harm my two-year-old granddaughter. They ransacked two of our rooms and looted cash and whatever jewellery they could find. They were speaking in Hindi and Punjabi.”
Police have booked four unidentified people under section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt and committing robbery) of the IPC and under the Arms Act at Ahmedgarh City police station. “We have made teams to crack the case. The accused will be arrested soon,” Cheema added.
