15 HELD FOR DRUG PEDDLING IN AMRITSAR IN SINGLE DAY

AMRITSAR: As many as 15 persons were arrested in separate cases in a single day on Sunday on charges of drug peddling.

Police recovered a total of 807 intoxicati­ng tablets from the possession of the accused, police said on Sunday.

“As part of a drive against drugs, strict instructio­ns were passed to the all police stations of Amritsar Rural to arrest all those involved in drug smuggling,” said senior superinten­dent of police (SSP, rural) Parampal Singh.

He added that within a period of 24 hours, the police arrested 15 persons and recovered more than 800 intoxicati­ng tablets from their possession.

The accused were booked under Section 22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act

INTOXICATI­NG POWDER SEIZED FROM JAIL INMATES

Officials of the Amritsar central jail on Sunday seized intoxicati­ng powder from two jail inmates during a routine search.

The accused were identified as Inderpreet Singh of Fateh Singh Colony and Harpartap Singh of Lahorka Kalan village. A case was registered on the complaint of two assistant jail superinten­dents, who said they recovered 20gm intoxicati­ng powder from Inderpreet and 2gm from Harpartap. The two were booked under the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act.
