HUSBAND, MOTHER-IN-LAW BOOKED FOR HARASSING WOMAN

AMBALA: The Ambala Cantonment police have booked a man working in Chandigarh for allegedly subjecting his wife to cruelty.

The woman, who belongs to Ambala Cantt, alleged that her husband has been mercilessl­y beating her and her in-laws have been harassing her for dowry. They also cheated her family members by telling lies before the marriage.

She said they had a love affair, but had gone for an arranged marriage with the consent of their families in December 2016.

“In my wedding, my parents had spent enough money and had also given a car to my husband. After the marriage, we shifted to Baltana in Mohali, where her in-laws started harassing here for dowry. They claimed that they were not satisfied with what they got as dowry from her family,” she alleged.

She added, “I came to know that my husband has an extramarit­al affair. My husband has been threatenin­g me of dire consequenc­es if I disclose the matter to anyone. At present, I am living alone in Ambala and working on a contractua­l basis. My husband has not been giving any expenses to me and I am lived under constant mental stress and physical harassment.”

A case has been registered under Sections 323, 406 and 498-A against the husband and mother-in-law of the complainan­t at Ambala Cantt police station.

Ambala Cantt SHO Vijay Kumar said they had received the complaint through Ambala women cell and registered a case against the accused.
