DON’T DEMORALISE PPSC CANDIDATES WITHOUT REASON

Apropos ‘Sever the roots of corruption in PPSC (HT Page 6, Spice of Life, February 8)’, at least since 2012 (the past seven years), no fingers have been pointed at the Punjab Public Service Commission in any selection. Therefore, it may be counterproductive to say as the author of the piece does that ‘…it is distressing indeed that there has been so much institutional decay’. The selection procedure now has a written test for every post comprising 300 marks and the interview is only 40 marks (11.7%). In the interview, subject experts, who are reputed professors, play a major role. The governments have taken care in appointments and the past four consecutive chairpersons have been retired senior officers. There is always scope for improvement in every institution, but we need to form a perception after finding out the facts from recently-selected candidates.
