4 friends killed in Ludhiana accident

Four college friends were killed when their car crashed into a road divider on the Neelon-Ludhiana southern bypass near Doraha on Thursday afternoon.

The victims were students of the Ludhiana College of Engineerin­g and Technology, Katani Kalan. They were on their way to Doraha in a Hyundai Accent car when the accident took place.

Impact of the collision was so strong that the car ripped apart and a part of it fell into a canal. While Navjot Singh, 23, Jashanpree­t Singh, 21, both residents of Bhama Kalan, and Tajinder Singh, 22, of Bhagwanpur­a died on the spot, Paramvir Singh, 21, of Madpur, breathed his last in a private hospital at Sherpur Chowk in Ludhiana. The car belonged to Navjot and he was behind the wheel.

Doraha station house officer Jarnail Singh said the driver lost control over the vehicle and it hit the divider. The passersby informed the police and the rescue operation was launched.

Eyewitness­es say the car was being driven a high speed. The speedomete­r was stuck at 150 kilometres per hour, said the police.

The bodies have been shifted to the Ludhiana civil hospital for post-mortem.

The vehicular traffic on the road remained affected for over two hours.
