CHANDIGARH: A special vigilance court here on Friday sentenced two Haryana policemen to fiveyear imprisonment in a 2013 corruption case.

Additional district and sessions judge Sushil Kumar Garg, who was recently given the charge of vigilance cases, also imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh each on the two convicts — ASI Jagdish Ram and ASI Jitender Kumar.

The duo was booked under Sections 7, 8, 13 of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The vigilance department of the Chandigarh police had arrested Jagdish Ram, then posted in Haryana CM’s security at his Sector 2 residence, in May 2013 while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from complainant Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Mauli Jagran.

As per the chargesheet, he accepted illegal gratification on behalf of ASI Jatinder Kumar, who was deployed with the CIA (crime investigation agency), Kaithal, and SHO, Kaithal police station.

The duo had demanded bribe from Gurmeet on the assurance of favouring him in a cheating and immigration fraud case. Gurmeet approached the vigilance department, which later laid the trap to nab the accused. In the past six years, the case was transferred to three different courts.

DUO WAS BOOKED UNDER VARIOUS SECTIONS OF PREVENTION OF CORRUPTION ACT AND INDIAN PENAL CODE
