A veteran Congress leader, Dalal started his political career as a student leader and was elected president of students union at Gurgaon Government College. He has been elected to the state assembly in 1991, 1996, 2000, 2005 and in 2014.

Constituen­cy primer: At about 2.22 lakh voters, the constituen­cy has three urban local bodies, 10 police stations and 257 gram panchayats. Palwal, which became the 21st district of the state in 2008, is situated on Delhi-Mathura highway, 60-km from national capital. The rural constituen­cy has total 282 villages.

Electoral history:

2014: Congress’ Karan Singh Dalal defeated Deepak Mangla of BJP by 5,642 votes

2009: Subash Choudhary of INLD defeated Dalal of Congress by over 6,000 votes.

2005: Dalal of Congress defeated INLD nominee by over 28,000 votes.
