A veteran Congress leader, Dalal started his political career as a student leader and was elected president of students union at Gurgaon Government College. He has been elected to the state assembly in 1991, 1996, 2000, 2005 and in 2014.
Constituency primer: At about 2.22 lakh voters, the constituency has three urban local bodies, 10 police stations and 257 gram panchayats. Palwal, which became the 21st district of the state in 2008, is situated on Delhi-Mathura highway, 60-km from national capital. The rural constituency has total 282 villages.

2014: Congress’ Karan Singh Dalal defeated Deepak Mangla of BJP by 5,642 votes
2009: Subash Choudhary of INLD defeated Dalal of Congress by over 6,000 votes.
