Akal Takht directs DSGMC to postpone nagar kirtan to Pak
AMRITSAR: Four days ahead of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) scheduled nagar kirtan from Delhi to Nankana Sahib on 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, Akal Takht on Wednesday directed the gurdwara body to defer the procession till it gets ‘all permissions’.
The Pakistan government has not given permission to DSGMC for holding the procession.
The direction of Akal Takhat comes amid the row between the DSGMC and Parmjit Singh Sarna-led Shiromani Akali DalDelhi (SADD) over taking out the procession from Delhi to Nankana Sahib.
Both the bodies, which have been at loggerheads over the procession, have planned separate nagar kirtans on different dates. The Pakistan government has given permission SADD nagar kirtan from Gurdwara Nanak Piao in New Delhi on October 28.
DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa has also planned a separate nagar kirtan from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib to Nankana Sahib on October 13.
“After a procession was planned by a Delhi based political party, you (DSGMC) made announcement of holding a separate procession leading to confusion among the sangat of Delhi. The sangat has requested Akal Takht to organise one procession from Delhi,” said Akal Takht jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.
