WASHINGTON: Sulli, one of South Korea’s most celebrated music stars, passed away at the age of 25 on Monday.

The pop star died at her home near Seoul and the body was discovered by her manager, who then alerted the police, as reported by Variety.

She had been suffering from depression, said police and added that they are working on the assumption that it was a possible case of a suicide. Police said that no note or any other communication was recovered during the investigations into her death.

Sulli, whose real name was Choi Jin Ri, began her career as a child actor in 2005 and shot to fame as a member of the K-pop allgirl band f(x).

However, she paused working until 2014 when she complained of severe cyber-bullying. Facing pressure, Sulli went on to quit the band in 2015.

She then returned to the limelight in 2017 by playing the lead role in the film Real.

Soon after news of her untimely demise was out, fans began mourning the loss and bidding farewell to her.

A fan echoed the cyber-bullying suffered by the late pop star, tweeting, “Netizens and hate comments killed her. Just stop cyber-bully guys.”

The actor-singer’s battle with internet bullying was no secret and fans knew how Sulli had been a victim of it. Pinning the blame of her death on it, another user posted, “#Sulli has made it clear many times that she was going through stuff and wanted help but no one was there.”

Sulli’s fans paid tribute to their favourite star online by sharing snippets from her performances, while many posted lyrics of some of her popular songs.
