800 e-rickshaws to ferry pilgrims in Sultanpur Lodhi

SULTANPUR LODHI: The state government will deploy 800 e-rickshaws in Sultanpur Lodhi to facilitate pilgrims during the celebratio­ns of 550th birth anniversar­y of Guru Nanak from November 1 to November 12. E-rickshaws will carry the devotees from all parking lots to the Gurdwara Shri Ber Sahib, the shrine where main function is to be held.

Kapurthala deputy commission­er DPS Kharbanda in a meeting with MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, SSP Satinder Singh and local councilors said that the administra­tion will implement least restrictio­ns on the pilgrims and residents of the city.

The DC said from November onwards, all vehicles coming to holy city will be stopped at 9 identified parking points and 300 mini buses will bring the pilgrims to the nearby parkings of Gurdwara Shri Bersahib, from where they will visit the holy shrine by foot.

He urged the residents to stop all kind of constructi­ons in the city so that clean atmosphere could be maintained. Meanwhile, senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Satinder said two local police personnel will also be stationed at all important traffic points to give special briefing about the management of traffic and geography of the city to the police personnel from other districts.

MOBILE APP LAUNCHED

The district administra­tion on Tuesday launched a mobile app— Parkash Utsav 550—to facilitate devotees arriving for the celebratio­ns of 550th birth anniversar­y of Guru Nanak in Sultanpur Lodhi. The app, once downloaded, will work offline.

Launching the app, MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, deputy commission­er (DC) DPS Kharbanda and SSP Satinder Singh said that the app will provided informatio­n about traffic routes, railway connectivi­ty, accommodat­ion facilities in different localities, police deployment, historic gurdwaras, medical facilities and places to visit in nearby areas.

Android users can presently download the app from Google play store while iPhone users can download it from apple store in three days.

The app will provide single-click informatio­n about historical gurdwaras, transport, healthcare, food and water, toilets and waste disposal, besides police check post, IT Informatio­n centers, May I Help you Desk, parking lots and missing trackers. In case of emergency, details of all helplines, including 44 hospitals in Sultanpur, Lohian, Kapurthala and Jalandhar, and ATM points have also been fed in the app. Cheema said pilgrims could also learn about the 37 langars at various places. GPS locations of all three tent cities and 9 parking lots were also provided in the app.

2 COPS TO PEDAL 3,000 KM TO SPREAD MESSAGE

MUKTSAR : Two policemen from Muktsar started a 3,000 km journey on cycles to mark the 550th birth anniversar­y of Guru Nanak. Samandeep Kumar and Gursewak Singh, both 28 years old, posted as constables in Muktsar, will pass through eight states to reach Kanyakumar­i over 28 days.
