PM playing politics over Kartarpur corridor: Tewari
LUDHIANA: Former Union minister and Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari on Saturday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his statement that the Congress has done nothing to ensure opening of Kartarpur corridor in the past and said the PM is indulging in dirty politics over the issue.
Speaking on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) demand of Bharat Ratna to VD Savarkar, Tewari said that the BJP has raked up the issue during the Maharashtra assembly elections as the party does not have many achievements to count.
He said before the Modi government confers the highest civilian award on Savarkar, it should award Bharat Ratna to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and Udham Singh and ensure martyr status for the four freedom fighters. The government should also name the Chandigarh airport after Bhagat Singh, said Tewari who was in the city to participate in the ‘Youth Parliament’ organised by local students.
On possible outcome of the bypolls in Punjab, Tewari said Congress was performing well on all four segments and is confident of winning the four seats.
Tewari, who had represented Ludhiana between 2009 and 2014, said Capt Sandeep Sandhu was the best choice for the constituency. Anandpur Sahib MP said resignation of Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa from the post of leader of the SAD in Rajya Sabha is a proof that the end of the party is nearing.About Navjot Singh Sidhu’s absence from the poll campaign, he said only Sidhu can answer the query.
