We respect people’s mandate. Our leaders gave a stiff competition to BJP candidates. We will be an effective opposition and will continue to expose the saffron party.

KULDEEP RATHORE, HP Cong chief

SHIMLA : The Congress’s Himachal Pradesh unit said on Thursday that it was mulling to move court against the state poll panel, alleging inaction by election officials on the complaints filed by the party against the BJP during the bypolls.

State Congress chief Kuldeep Singh Rathore said he would consult senior colleagues for filing a case in the high court against the poll panel.

He said the Congress had submitted a number of complaints but the poll body did not take any action.

“We kept complaining to the election commission (EC) about BJP’s violation of model code of conduct and provided them with valid proof, including video footages and photographs. The poll panel, however, failed to take proper action. It merely issued notices for complaints,” he alleged while addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan.

He said the state government “misused power” to influence voters while the EC acted as a spectator. He said the party will soon be setting up a committee to find out the reasons for their defeat in the bypolls.

He congratulated Bharatiya Janata Party candidates besides thanking the people of both the constituencies. He said despite “misuse of government machinery”, Congress succeeded in reducing the margin to nearly 2,700 in Pachhad.

“We respect people’s mandate. Our leaders gave a stiff competition to BJP candidates. We will be an effective opposition and will continue to expose the saffron party,” said Rathore.
