CBI files petition against SC order granting bail to Chidambaram

-

NEWDELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s October 22 order granting bail to former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media corruption case, claiming that “some errors apparent on record” have crept into the verdict.

SC had granted bail to Chidambaram saying he is neither a “flight risk” nor is there a possibility of his abscondence from the trial, contrary to what the CBI had argued.

“In the order of dismissal some errors apparent on record have crept in, which if considered, would have material change in the outcome of the SLP [special leave petition],” said the review petition.

Being the court of record, SC should clarify the position and review its order, the agency said.

ED MOVES TOP COURT

The ED on Friday moved the Supreme Court questioning the Delhi high court decision granting bail to Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar in a money laundering case.

The agency filed its special leave petition against the October 23 verdict that gave relief to Shivakumar. Shivakumar, a 7-time MLA in Karnataka, was booked along with Haumanthaiah — an employee at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi — and others for alleged offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

He was granted bail on Wednesday. The high court had declined to accept ED’s contention that he would tamper with evidence when released on bail as he is an influential person. HTC
