HEARING ON PLEAS CHALLENGIN­G J&K SPLIT FROM DEC 10

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Thursday refused to pass any interim order on a batch of pleas challengin­g the validity of the Centre’s decision to abrogate the provisions of Article 370, which gave special status to J&K. The bench, comprising Justices NV Ramana, SK Kaul, R Subhash Reddy, B R Gavai and Surya Kant, said that it would hear arguments in the matter on December 10.

JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu on Thursday said the J&K Police has faced the challenge of terrorism very boldly.

Referring to the recent snowfall and inclement weather conditions, the Lt governor said the cooperatio­n of police force is very important for relief and rescue operations.

He said all the people have the responsibi­lity of developing the Union Territory by implementi­ng the welfare schemes and programmes with utmost devotion and dedication in an accelerate­d manner.

“The passing out jawans should serve the public with utmost devotion and dedication. The Jammu and Kashmir Police faced the challenge of terrorism very boldly,” Murmu said.

He was speaking at the Attestatio­n-cum-Passing out Parade of the 14th batch of constables. In his speech, J-K DGP Dilbag Singh said the Jammu and Kashmir Police has fought a war against terrorism and because of the sacrifices, the terrorism is on its last legs and needs a final assault to neutralize it forever.
