AMRITSAR: Two unidentified men looted jewellery worth over ₹1 crore from a city-based goldsmith after attacking him with sharp-edged weapons on Thursday morning. Police said the incident took place at around 6.30 am when victim Surinder Kumar, alias Bhola, of Sattowala Bazar in Amritsar was on way to his home after purchasing jewellery from Delhi, say police.

The victim’s brother Aashu said, “Surinder had gone to New Delhi for purchasing jewellery for our new shop in Guru Bazar which is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 17. He alighted from the bus at Amritsar bus stand and reached the railway station parking on an autorickshaw.”

Aashu said, “After taking his scooter, Surinder was on his way to our home carrying jewellery in his bag. When he reached at

Bhandari Bridge, two unknown persons came from behind and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. After injuring him, the accused took away the jewellery worth more than ₹1 crore. Some passersby rushed my brother to a private hospital where he is under treatment.”
