More than a match for private schools
Attractive walls, pillars with learning visuals, technology enhanced classrooms, English medium and educational parks inside schools form part of the facelift of government schools under the Smart School buzz. Even students of private schools are fascinated enough to make the switch.
Aryan Vidlan, a Class-7 student of Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Threeke, said, “I took admission last year. I studied in a private school for six years and faced problems. Teachers did not take regular classes there and students were given a lot of irrelevant work.” The school, 20km from district headquarters, enroled 620 students this year against 515 last year.
Principal Jatinder Kaur, said, “Over the past year, we have created science and maths parks to give practical exposure to students.”
VILLAGERS POOLED IN FOR THIS SCHOOL
Government Primary School, Jhande, with 183 students has topped its block in the pre-post test recently. Thirty five new students have enroled for the next session. Villagers contributed to the school turning smart.
A parent, Sheela Rani, said, “I visited the school to enquire about admission for my six-year-old daughter and was amazed to see teachers taking classes through LEDs and projectors. The school has better infrastructure than private schools.”
42% JUMP IN ENROLMENT
Government Model Senior Secondary Smart School, Punjab Agricultural University, has increased enrolment by 42% from last year’s strength of 2,660. A parent, Vishal Kumar, said, “I have admitted my daughter in Class 6 in PAU smart school, shifting her from a private school. This government school offers better sports facilities, infrastructure and is English medium.”
