NARESH TANWAR, sarpanch of Bhiwani’s Jatu Lohari village

ROHTAK: A 50-year-old woman on Friday alleged that the sarpanch of Bhiwani’s Jatu Lohari village and his men had attacked her and her daughter in her house on Wednesday.

The woman, Nirmla Devi, a widow, said sarpanch Naresh Tanwar beat her up and also issued a diktat to boycott her family.

“The sarpanch had asked me to clear the area being used by me to store waste material and cow dung. After a heated argument, Tanwar and his aides thrashed me and my 25-year-old daughter. Later, he lodged an FIR against me and my son, Sonu, accusing us of stealing ₹50,000 from him. When we contacted the police, they failed to initiate action against the sarpanch and his men,” she said.

She said people affiliated with some social organisations admitted her to a civil hospital in Bhiwani for treatment.

Tanwar refuted Nirmla’s, allegations and claimed that the woman and her son had assaulted him when he asked to lift cow dung from the road side.

“A cleanliness drive was carried out in the streets of the village. When I asked the woman to clear the area, she objected and misbehaved with me. She and her son attacked me and tried to tear my clothes. The decision pertaining to woman’s social boycott was taken by the village panchayat after the duo tried to beat up a village representative,” he added.

Bawani Khera SHO Sri Bhagwan said that the woman had not approached them regarding social boycott:“We had filed an FIR against the woman and her son for thrashing the village sarpanch and stealing money from him on Wednesday.”
