Streetlights, CCTVs to ensure streets safer for women: Khattar
THE CM ANNOUNCED THAT A ‘MOTHERS FOR SPORTS AND FITNESS’ APP WILL BE LAUNCHED THROUGH WHICH INFO ABOUT FACILITIES OF SPORTS AND COACHES WOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE
GURUGRAM: Reiterating his government’s commitment to women’s safety and empowerment, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that roads, public places in both urban and rural areas would be made safe and secure for women during the day and night.
For this, he said, the government plans to erect 3.9 lakh street lights across the state to provide a secure environment for women during the night.
Across the state, the CM said two lakh CCTV cameras have already been installed and one lakh more would be installed in the next two years to keep an eye on the law and order situation.
Khattar was speaking at a state-level programme to mark the International Women’s Day organised in Gurugram on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, the CM said that special vehicles were being provided to girl students to ensure that they reach their educational institutions safe.
“We have also opened 31 new girls’ colleges and nine more will be set up so that they do not have to travel more than 20 kilometres from their homes,” he said, adding that Haryana was the first state in the country to announce capital punishment to the rapists of girls below 12 years of age and such steps have been taken to provide a more secure atmosphere for the girls and women in the state.
Stressing on the important role played by mothers, the CM announced a ‘Mothers for sports and fitness’ app will be launched, through which mothers will be informed of the facilities of sports and coaches available in their proximity so that they can motivate their children to avail of those facilities to become mentally and physically fit.
The programme was held at Government College, Sector-14, Gurugram, from where Khattar addressed all 22 districts in the state through video conferencing.
