LUDHIANA: Hours after tying the nuptial knot, a 26-year-old man and his brother-in-law were killed while five others injured as the car they were travelling in rammed into a moving truck from behind on National Highway-44 near Jalandhar Bypass here on Wednesday night. The deceased have been identified as bridegroom Rahul, 26.
LUDHIANA : Hours after tying the nuptial knot, a 26-year-old man and his brother-in-law were killed while five others injured as the car they were travelling in rammed into a moving truck from behind on National Highway-44 near Jalandhar Bypass here on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as bridegroom Rahul, 26, of Bhattian in Ludhiana, and his brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Raju, 28, of Himachal Pradesh. The injured are Rahul’s brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Naveen, cousins Ashu and Ajay of Jain Colony in Sherpur, and his two friends Chintu, 26, and Aneesh, 27, also residents of Jain Colony.
According to the police, Rahul got married on Wednesday morning. After dropping the bride home, they went out to celebrate the occasion in a Ford Ikon car. Near Jalandhar bypass, the car rammed into the truck loaded with eggs, killing Rahul and Raju on the spot.
The passersby and police rescued the injured and rushed them to nearby hospitals. Rahul was driving the car, while Raju was sitting beside him.
Truck driver Shamsher Kohli said he loaded eggs for delivery in Jammu. “I was plying on the service lane when the car hit the truck from behind,” he said.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, city-1) Gurpreet Singh Sikand said occupants of the car were drunk. The police have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
NEWS LEAVES WIFE DEVASTATED
Rahul’s wife Madhu was inconsolable and finding it hard to come to terms with the tragic news. It was a love marriage after two years of courtship.
The couple tied the nuptial knot at a simple function to save money for their future. Soon after dropping Madhu at his house, Rahul, along with his two brothers-in-law, cousins and friends, went to the market and met with the mishap.
“He was wearing ‘sherwani’ of my choice. I wished to see him in the attire, but the fate has played a cruel joke on me,” said Madhu. Rahul was the youngest of the three siblings. His two elder sisters are married. Rahul’s father Harjinder is a municipal employee.
