Aligarh tense as man dies of bullet injuries

AGRA : Tension was palpable in Aligarh as a man, who was injured during the February 23 violence, died on Friday. The body of Mohammad Tariq was buried in the early hours of Saturday amid tight security.

Tariq, who was in his 20s, was hospitalis­ed after he sustained bullet injuries during the violence following the protests against Citizenshi­p Amendment Act (CAA) at Upar Kot. He was being treated at Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University. Tariq, whose condition was deteriorat­ing since Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.

Anticipati­ng tension, district officials went to the hospital and discussed a security plan. “Rapid Action Force, PAC and state police have been deployed in sensitive areas,” said Aligarh superinten­dent of police Abhishek Kumar. BJP leader Vinay Varshney, booked for firing on Tariq, had been arrested. “Varshney has been shifted to Etah District Jail,” said Kumar.

ANTI-CAA PROTESTER’S BABY DIES

An anti-CAA protester’s 50-dayold daughter has died of cold in Deoband. The woman, who has been participat­ing in anti-CAA protest, however, returned to the protest on Saturday, just a couple of days after her daughter’s death. An anti-CAA protest has been on at Idgah ground of Deoband since January 27.

The woman, Naushaba, joined the protest 10 days ago. Since her baby was young, the other women told her to not stay at night. It rained on Thursday and the blanket wrapped around the baby got drenched.
