2 fresh cases in Ladakh, HP sends back tourists

SURGE Positive cases in UT go up to 10, Ladakh Scouts soldier among those infected

JAMMU:/SRINAGAR: With two more cases tested positive for coronaviru­s, the total number of persons infected with the virus has gone up to 10 in the Union Territory of Ladakh. Results of 55 samples are still awaited.

Ten infected with the virus also includes a soldier of the Indian Army’s Ladakh Scouts.

Ladakh commission­er secretary Rigzin Samphel said, “On Thursday evening, two more samples were tested positive for Covid-19. They belong to Chuchot area of Leh district. They have been quarantine­d in a hospital,” adding that both the persons, whose reports came positive were relatives of the people who have already been confirmed positive for the virus and hail from the same area.”

He said that they had received negative result of a relative of health department official working in State bank of India a few days ago.

“We have sent the report for re-verificati­on after one of the members of the same family turned out a positive case. “

Meawhile, UT administra­tion has restricted the entry of passengers travelling by air to Ladakh.

Divisional commission­er,

Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, said the decision has been taken in view of outbreak of Covid 19.

“Due to emergent requiremen­t of taking stringent precaution­ary measures for spread of the virus, it is hereby ordered that no commercial flights landing at KBR airport, Leh, shall carry in-bound passengers to Leh other than residents of Ladakh till further orders,” read the order issued by Biswas.

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir so far has four confirmed cases of Covid 19. On Friday, the government of J&K issued an order asking all the school teachers to stay at their homes till further orders.

“No school teacher to attend duties at schools as class is suspended,” an order issued by principal secretary to government, department of education, Asghar Samoon, read.

However, heads of institutio­ns, principals, ZEOs, CEOs and engineers engaged in implementa­tion of various centrallys­ponsored schemes have been asked to attend their duties “with great caution.”

HIMACHAL PRADESH SEALS ITS BORDERS

DHARAMSHAL­A: Himachal Pradesh has sealed its borders in pursuance of the government order to ban entry of tourists, foreign and domestic, in the state to prevent spread of coronaviru­s.

Checkposts have been set up at all the entry points and vehicles are being checked. The people coming from outside the state are being sent back and only Himachal Pradesh residents are being allowed to enter the state.

Security personnel have been told to maintain a register to record details of the residents coming to the state. Thermal screening is also being done.

Despite a strict vigil, a luxury bus ferrying 20 foreign tourists sneaked into the territory of Himachal Pradesh on Friday through an unmanned alternativ­e route.

The bus had reached at Amb in Una when it was stopped by the police.

The bus belongs to a private travelling agency based at Dharamshal­a. The tourists were travelling from Rishikesh in Uttrakhand to Dharamshal­a.

Police have interrogat­ed the staff. The vigil has been tightened at the alternativ­e routes also after the matter came to the light. Sources told that the tourists are in India for the past three months.

Meanwhile authoritie­s of Kangra district sent a foreign woman to an isolation facility after she arrived at the airport on Friday morning.
