Co-op bank lodges complaint against customer for fraud

RUDRAPUR: Almora Urban-Co-operative Bank lodged a complaint against a customer for allegedly committing fraud by falsely claiming that an unidentifi­ed person had withdrawn ~10,000 from his account in Khatima town of US Nagar district, said police on Friday.

According to Prem Shankar Chaudhary, senior branch manager in Almora Urban-Co-operative Bank, Khatima branch, accused customer Jagdish Nagaryan Sagar, a resident of Bhoor Maholiya village of Khatima had alleged that an amount of ~10,000 had been withdrawn from his account in three instalment­s.

Chaudhary said, “Sagar had then demanded the amount from bank. We informed the higher authoritie­s regarding the case on which they suggested him to lodge a complaint with police first, but he refused.”

Sagar then told the bank officials that the one who had withdrawn the money was a “known person due to which he doesn’t want to lodge a complaint,” said the branch manager.

“During the internal probe, the claim was found to be a concocted after which we lodged a police complaint as per the RBI guidelines in such cases,” said Chaudhary.

Based on the complaint, the police then registered a case against the accused on charges of fraud. “We have registered a case against the customer on the complaint of bank manager and will soon arrest him,” said Sanjay Pathak, station house officer, Khatima police station.
