COUNT 84 First Covid-19 patient from Srinagar discharged from hospital
SRINAGAR/JAMMU: Eight more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the tally to 70 in the Union territory, officials said on Thursday. However, a 62-year-old woman, who was the first Covid-19 patient here, has been discharged from the hospital after she was tested negative.
Director NRHM Bupinder Singh said of the eight positive cases, seven were contacts of the already positive cases, while one had travel history to Saudi Arabia. By our surveillance and contact tracing and by doing tests we have been able to identify positive cases.’’

According to the J&K information department, the total cases include 53 from Kashmir and 17 from Jammu have tested positive so far. Three positive patients have been cured while two have succumbed to the dreaded virus in Kashmir. This leaves the number of active cases in Kashmir at 48 and 17 in the Jammu division.
LADAKH TALLY RISES TO 14
After 10 days, a positive case was detected in Ladakh, taking the total number of positive cases to 14 in the UT. Three patients have already recovered. Officials said the test of a woman who was under quarantine come positive.
The woman is from Sanjok village in Kargil, the area has been sealed and people have been asked to take precautions.
Officials said the woman has contacted the disease from a positive patient from Leh who is kept in isolation. Officials said that 411 samples were sent for testing while 14 were found positive the reports of 59 are still awaited.
SCREENING POST SET UP ON SRINAGAR-LEH NH
Kargil: With the strategically important 434-km Srinagar-Leh National Highway set to reopen later this month, authorities in this border district have set up a 50-bedded quarantine centre and a full-fledged screening post to counter the spread of coronavirus, an official said on Thursday.
The quarantine centre has come up at Tourist Dak Bungalow at Drass, while the screening post with the trained medical staff was made functional at Meenamarg on the highway, the official said.
Meanwhile, the authorities have declared Chattabal locality in Srinagar City as a “red zone” in view of a cluster of four positive cases of Covid-19 in the area, officials said. “Chattabal has been declared Containment (Red) Zone in view of the cluster of four positive cases,” the administration said in a tweet.
2 HELD FOR HIDING TRAVEL HISTORY
A man from UP who did not share his travel history with the authorities and a ‘moulvi’ (preacher) who gave him shelter in a mosque has been apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided the Chak Doulat mosque and held the two men on Wednesday night, they said. A case has been registered against the UP man and the preacher.
