With 9 new cases, Hry count mounts to 44

CHANDIGARH: With nine new cases, the number of confirmed Covid-19 patients in Haryana swelled to 44 on Friday.

According to official data, five persons tested positive in Gurugram, three in Nuh and one in Karnal.

Three of the Gurugram patients (two from Maharashtr­a and one from Uttar Pradesh) had taken part in the Tablighi Jamaat event at Delhi’s Nizamuddin last month. The remaining two are a father-son duo, who had recently returned from Mumbai.

Three men from Kerala, who had also attended the Delhi congregati­on and were quarantine­d in Nuh, have tested positive for coronaviru­s as well.

Karnal, meanwhile, has reported its first confirmed case of coronaviru­s. The 58-year-old patient from Raseen village of the district neither has any history of foreign travel nor came in contact with any positive case, his family claimed.

He developed symptoms six days ago and was admitted to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital, said Karnal DC Nishant Yadav, adding that he was later referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where he tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. His village has been cordoned off and his family members quarantine­d.

Apart from these, Faridabad has so far registered six positive cases, Panipat and Palwal four each, Sirsa and Ambala three each, Panchkula two and Hisar, Sonepat, Karnal and Rohtak, one each.

The number of people currently under surveillan­ce is 16,067, while total samples sent for testing till now are 1,325, of which 938 have been found to be negative and results of 343 are awaited.

60K CALLS RECEIVED AT CALL CENTRE

Meanwhile, more than 60,000 calls have been received and answered so far by the Haryana Covid call centre with 24x7 helpline numbers: 1075 and 8558893911.

As per the official figures, of the total calls, 20,000 were related to Covid-19, while the remaining ones pertained to food, travel pass, law and order, industry, labour and basic civic amenities issues. The call centre daily answers around 2,000 queries related to the supply of cooked food and ration.

The state government has urged the residents to call for essential services in case of emergencie­s only. The citizens in an official release have also been asked not to misuse the resources.
