17 FRESH INFECTIONS IN J&K

With 17 more people testing positive for Covid-19, the number of cases in Jammu and Kashmir rose to 92 on Saturday, officials here said. “17 positive cases have been reported today. Three from Jammu and 14 from Kashmir,” said an official. The total number cases in the UT includes four patients who have recovered.

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: : With 17 more people testing positive for Covid-19, the number of cases in Jammu and Kashmir rose to 92 on Saturday, officials here said.

“17 positive cases have been reported today. Three from Jammu and 14 from Kashmir,” said an official spokespers­on.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the Union territory includes four patients who have recovered and two deaths, both in Kashmir.

“Fourteen fresh cases were detected in Kashmir today (Saturday),” the officials said.

“Three positive cases in Jammu were reported from Narsoo, Udhampur. All contacts of a positive patient from Udhampur with travel history abroad,” Rohit Kansal, principal secretary (planning and informatio­n), had tweeted earlier in the day.

Most of the fresh cases in Kashmir were reported on Saturday from Baramulla district, the contacts of already declared positive cases. More than 10 villages in Uri and Tangmarg areas have been declared as red zones and most of the patients turning positive on Saturday are members of Tablighi Jamaat or their contacts.

The total number of coronaviru­s cases in the Union Territory has now reached 92, the officials said.

The official spokesman said that 86 are active positive and four have recovered while two patients from Kashmir have died.

Seven patients have tested negative after undergoing treatment. They will undergo another test before they are discharged from the hospital, they said.

A total of 34 hotspots have been identified in Jammu and Kashmir.

WITH 9 CURED IN LADAKH, POSITIVE CASES DROP TO 5

JAMMU: The sparsely populated but vast region of Ladakh region has not witnessed any death due to the dreaded virus so far and on Saturday, the count of positive cases went down to five from 14.

“Nine of the 14 positive cases have been cured over the past 12 days in the union territory of Ladakh. Now, Leh district has two positive cases and Kargil has three. Therefore, as of now we have five positive cases,” said Rigzin Samphel, commission­er secretary of Ladakh.

Ladakh had recorded a total of 14 cases of coronaviru­s. Two patients fully recovered on March 24, another on March 29 and four others on Friday.

Ladakh, also called cold desert, is a remote and hilly area with several challenges, including communicat­ion and connectivi­ty. “During these difficult times, All India Radio has been providing regular updates to the people in entire region. In fact, All India Radio is the lifeline for Ladakh region for informatio­n and connectivi­ty,” said a local scribe from Leh.

“Initially we came up with programmes to create awareness among the public . Now, daily updates four times a day are being aired and expert talks have certainly created awareness about the pandemic,” he added.
