Covid-19 claims two more lives in Punjab, toll now 7

AMRITSAR/LUDHIANA: Two elderly woman patients succumbed to the Covid-19 infection in Punjab on Sunday, taking the total count of fatalities due to the respirator­y virus in the state to seven. The total number of positive cases stands at 71.

A 75-year-old woman from Pathankot died at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) in Amritsar. She had tested positive on Saturday, said Amritsar civil surgeon Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal. “Raj Rani was brought to the Pathankot civil hospital on April 1 after she complained of fever and breathless­ness. Seeing her complicati­ons, she was referred to GNDH on Saturday,” said the civil surgeon.

“Her condition was critical. She was also suffering from diabetes and blood pressure. She was put on ventilator but she was not responding to the treatment. Age factor and co-morbiditie­s added to the cause of death”, said Amritsar government medical college principal Dr Sujata Sharma.

The woman was staying with her nine family members who have also been isolated, added Dr Johal. In Ludhiana, 69- year- old Surinder Kaur died at Fortis Hospital where she was undergoing treatment since March 31.

The health department has stated that the deceased was a diabetic and died due to cardiac arrest.

Her son Harpal and daughter in law Gurpreet Kaur were tested negative. However, both are still under quarantine.

On Saturday, two women, relatives of the deceased, also tested positive in Mohali.

WOMAN, SON TEST POSITIVE IN RUPNAGAR

RUPNAGAR::Two more persons of Chatamali village in Rupnagar district tested positive for Covid-19. Rupnagar deputy commission­er Sonali Giri said the infected persons are the wife and son of the 55-year-old man who was found positive for the virus on Friday and is undergoing treatment at PGIMER.
