These are ‘challenging’ times

- Gayathri Menon

The world is going through a lot right now, but there is one bright side to it all. This pandemic has brought the whole world together. One other good thing that is happening is that people are using social media platforms to stay connected with the world. People have started a chain of many quarantine challenges, and even celebrities are taking part in them. Ranging from upload really ugly photographs to licking your toilet seats — the social media is on a new high (or has stooped a new low?), as people have too much time in their hands and are testing their creativity. Here’s a look at the various challenges that have gone viral.

UNTIL TOMORROW

You see a random friend posting an ugly picture of them, you laugh at it, hit the like button and continue scrolling. But soon, your DM will reveal the trap. and suddenly, the picture doesn’t look as innocent as it was. Thousands of teenagers began posting unflattering photos of themselves with the cryptic caption that read — until tomorrow. Anyone who likes the photos, which are intended to only stay up for 24 hours, will receive a message from the user daring them to do the same. It is a silly challenge but is very popular across the country.

THE CORONAVIRUS CHALLENGE

The Coronavirus Challenge, made by influencer Ava Louise, is perhaps the most disgusting challenge we have seen so far. Given the fact that we are suffering a pandemic, this is certainly the stupidest challenge. In a six-second long video, Louise is seen licking the toilet seat inside an aeroplane bathroom. This was instantly viral and sparked widespread backlash and some copycats. Surely, there is no feeling of FOMO for this.
