Denied free ration, cop’s wife, 2 sons kill depot holder

KAPURTHALA: Police on Tuesday booked wife of a cop, his two sons and another person for killing a 55-year-old food and civil supplies department depot holder over ration distributi­on at Kila Mohalla locality here on Monday.

The deceased, Ghasita Mall Lahori, was the person in-charge for issuing slips to the families of smart card holders for availing free wheat and pulses under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY).

The government has intimated an exercise of issuing slips to the beneficiar­ies to maintain social distancing. Once the slips are collected, the food materials are delivered at the doorsteps by government workers.

On Monday, Debo, wife of Daulati Ram, a Punjab Police home guard posted at Kapurthala headquarte­rs, along with her two sons—Bholu, Joban— and their friend Arjun Kumar thrashed Lahori after he refused to issue them slips citing that they do not have their names registered as beneficiar­ies in the list provided by the F&C department, a police officer said.

“Locals and nephew of the deceased rushed Lahori to Kapurthala civil hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead,” said SP (Investigat­ion) Manpreet Singh.

“We have registered a case against under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the IPC against the four,” he added.
