2 BSF men killed in J&K militant attack
Attack comes a day after Hizb divisional commander and another militant were killed in Nawakadal area of Srinagar
SRINAGAR: Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed when militants fired upon them in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.
Two or three motorcycleborne militants fired upon the BSF personnel at a picket in Pandach area on the outskirts of the city, a police spokesperson said. Two BSF personnel were injured in the attack and were shifted to SKIMS hospital at Soura here.
“Militants also snatched weapons of the jawans,” the spokesperson said.
The personnel have been identified as Rana Mandol and Jinul Haque, both from 37 battalion.
While one of the jawans was declared brought dead by doctors, another succumbed to injuries, officials said.
They said both jawans– aged 35 and 36– had head injuries. The area was cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the attackers, officials said.
The attack comes a day after Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander and another militant were killed in an encounter in Nawakadal area of Srinagar.
On Tuesday, J&K director general of police Dilbag Singh had said that militants are making attempts to strike in Srinagar and terror modules were busted recently when 12 people were arrested.
FOUR LET ASSOCIATES HELD IN BUDGAM
SRINAGAR: Four militant associates of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested in Budgam district on Wednesday, and arms and ammunition recovered from their possession, police said.
Acting on inputs, security forces arrested Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, Mudasir Ahmad Lone, Younis Waza—all residents of
Budran—and Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Poshkar Khag, a police spokesperson said.
Incriminating materials, arms, including a pistol, a grenade and huge cache of ammunition were recovered from their possession, the spokesperson said.
As per the police records, they were involved in providing logistic support and shelter to the active militants of the LeT operating in the area, besides other unlawful activities, according to the spokesman.
