One death, 89 fresh cases surface in Punjab

LUDHIANA/AMRITSAR/JALANDHAR/ FARIDKOT : Punjab on Monday reported one death and 89 fresh coronaviru­s cases, taking the state’s tally to 3,244 . As per the latest field reports received till 10pm. The state has reported 72 fatalities due to Covid-19 so far.

In Ludhiana, a 72-year-old ex-serviceman from Mansuran village died while 45 persons, including three undertrial­s, tested positive as the industrial town witnessed the biggest single-day spike in coronaviru­s cases.

The ex-serviceman, Hardeep Singh, who was suffering from comorbidit­ies, including diabetes, pneumonia and cardiac issues, died due to multiple organ failure on Monday afternoon, said civil surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga.

Twenty-four cops, including 14 from Kanganwal police chowki and eight from Division No 2 Police station in Ludhiana have been asked to remain in self-quarantine after three theft and drugs case accused tested positive Ten fresh cases surfaced from migrant quarters in Ludhiana’s Janta Nagar.

Seventeen more people from Amritsar tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, health officials said.

Amritsar civil surgeon Dr Jugal Kishore said: “Thirteen cases are fresh community transmissi­on cases and most of the cases are from walled city areas of the district. The other four patients are the close contacts of the already reported Covid-19 cases.”

Three cops of Jalandhar commission­erate are among 12 persons tested positive of novel coronaviru­s in Jalandhar on Monday. Meanwhile, four people tested positive in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

A 47-year-old Punjab P ASI belonging to Terkiana village, and a 58-year-old woman of Bassi Jalal village, who are admitted in Jalandhar civil hospital have tested positive in Hoshiarpur district. Another Punjab Police personnel Ravish Kumar, 43, posted at Mahilpur police station, a Gurugram returnee Darshan Kumar, 57, of Changarwan village and Karnail Singh, 34, of Seehwan, who had recently returned from Delhi have also tested positive for the virus.

A 16-year-old boy, who returned to Faridkot from Gurugram tested positive for the coronaviru­s disease (Covid-19) on Monday.

A 38-year-old Delhi police constable, who returned to his native village in Moga on June 12, tested positive for Covid-19.

In Mohali, a 45-year-old woman from Mubarakpur tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, taking the total number of cases from this Dera Bassi village to 11 in four days.

Meanwhile, three more cases were reported in Mohali district, taking the number of confirmed cases to 180.
