Stop issuing domicile certificates to outsiders: Hurriyat Conference to govt

-

SRINAGAR: Moderate Hurriyat Conference on Wednesday talked about resolution of the Kashmir issue for the first time since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 and its split into two Union territories on August 5 last year.

The separatist amalgam again advocated for dialogue and urged the government to stop issuing domicile certificates to outsiders to change J&K’s demographic character. They also asked people not to sell their land or property to outsiders at any cost.

The amalgam, in a statement, said the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) executive members professor Abdul Ghani Bhat and Bilal Ghani lone called on ailing executive member and former APHC chairman Maulana Abbas Ansari to check on his deteriorating health at his residence and later held a meeting there.

“All APHC members at the meeting reiterated the amalgam’s basic stand that the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir has to be resolved peacefully by the three stakeholders— India ,Pakistan and people of J&K,” the members said. “Dialogue among the three stakeholders is the best alternative to resolve the issue that APHC has consistently advocated and even participated in. Resolution of the Kashmir issue is the best guarantee of real peace and subsequent prosperity in the subcontinent,” they said. Since the effective revocation of Article 370 in August 2019, the Hurriyat neither issued any protest calendar or any calls for protest as used to be the norm earlier.
